How To: Connect a Mouse to Your Nexus Player

How To: Connect a Mouse to Your Nexus Player
If you've sideloaded apps on your Nexus Player, you're surely aware that not very many are optimized for use with a remote control. This can make navigating such apps a pretty big hassle, since they were designed with touchscreen input in mind. But the Nexus Player can actually be controlled with a mouse, which simulates touches and makes sideloaded apps a lot easier to use. There are two different ways to connect a mouse to your Nexus Player, and I'll outline them both below. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Method 1: Use a USB OTG CableA USB On-The-Go cable, or USB OTG for short, is essentially an adapter that allows you to plug a full-sized USB cable into a Micro USB port. These can be purchased for less than $5 from many electronics retailers, including Amazon. (There are even convenient hub options.)If you have a USB OTG cable available to you, using a mouse on your Nexus Player is incredibly easy. Just connect the small end of the cable to the back of your Nexus Player, then plug your mouse into the other end. This will also work for a wireless mouse—just plug the receiver in instead. With this method, no further setup is required. Once you've connected your mouse, you can immediately use it with your Nexus Player.

Method 2: Use a Bluetooth MouseIf you'd rather keep the USB port on the back of your Nexus Player free for other purposes like expandable storage, you can use a Bluetooth mouse instead. To begin, make sure your Bluetooth mouse is powered on, then flip it over. You should find a button labeled "Connect" or "Pair"—go ahead and press it. Image via Amazon For most Bluetooth mice, this will give you about a minute with which to complete the pairing process. So next, head to the main settings menu on your Nexus Player, then find the "Remote & accessories" section and click "Add accessory." From here, your Nexus Player will search for nearby Bluetooth devices that are in pairing mode. When it finds your mouse, simply click the associated entry. Within a few moments, your mouse will be paired and you'll be all set to go.Which method did you use to connect a mouse to your Nexus Player? Let us know in the comment section below, or drop us a line on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter.

How To: Make the gantry sides for a CNC router

How To: Make the gantry sides for a CNC router

A CNC router machine is probably the most useful tool a hobbyist can own, but the price for a CNC machine on the market is way more than the average hobbyist is willing to spend. You can build your own CNC with very basic tools, little knowledge of machinery, mechanics, or electronics, but be warned, these machines are inherently dangerous, so wear the proper protection and use common sense. At the very least, read the instructions and precautions on every tool you use. Now, a CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, but that is gibberish. It does hint you to the fact that something is controlled, and probably by a computer. It's really a mechanism that interfaces to a computer to control its movements, similar to a robot, but this machine has a specific function. It cuts or shapes things with this control. In essence, a computer precisely controls a cutting tool, like a router for instance, to cut materials such as wood, plastic or metals into shapes only bounded by your imagination. This video tutorial will show you how to make the gantry sides for a CNC router. The gantry is the part of the CNC Router that moves along the x-axis. That's what makes this machine a gantry style machine. The gantry allows the router to essentially float over the cutting surface. The gantry sides consist of two boards approximately 18" x 8". The linear slide bearings are longer than the other linear slide bearings on the y and z axes so the weight of the gantry can be supported. The gantry needs to carry the z-axis, router, and the y-axis with all support pieces. In addition, the force of the motors against the force that the bit and cutting imposes on the machine must be handled by the entire gantry.

How To: The Next Big Thing in Smartphone Cameras Is Machine Learning & It's Already Here

How To: The Next Big Thing in Smartphone Cameras Is Machine Learning & It's Already Here
As smartphones become more accessible, billions of people have come to depend on their features for daily life. One of the most important aspects these days is the camera. OEMs have been working for years to improve camera quality, and they seem to have finally figured it out — the best way to achieve DSLR-quality photos wasn't just with better sensors, but with better intelligence.Smartphones manufacturers are limited in the hardware department because of a lack of options. Many key components have only one or two suppliers, which leads to most flagship devices sharing the same parts. This has caused OEMs to start looking for other ways to improve photography, and three industry leaders have found that machine learning provided the answer they sought.

What Is Machine Learning? To put it as simply as possible, machine learning (ML) is a type of programming that lets computers improve their capabilities without further human interaction. A human will program basic components of the system, then allow the computer to refine itself based on parameters that were initially set by the human programmer.Think of machine learning like electronic evolution — we give the system all the basic tools it needs to get started, then the system refines itself through trial and error. Again, though, this is a simplified explanation. If you'd like a more detailed summary, I highly recommend watching this video. As it pertains to smartphone photography, the main thing you should know about machine learning is that devices can use this technology to refine their object recognition skills and better decipher patterns in images. Some of the methods used for machine learning. Image by Luis Serrano/YouTube However, many OEMs are marketing machine learning as artificial intelligence when it's merely a component of AI. Artificial Intelligence is a broad concept that describes machines which function entirely independently of human beings while managing to think like human beings. This includes the ability to learn independently, analyze their surroundings without assistance, and make independent decisions. The components that make up artificial intelligence. Image by Raj Ramesh/YouTube Smartphones are only just beginning to become efficient at machine learning, but are far away from incorporating all components of artificial intelligence. Their learned behavior comes from data provided during production, so their learning capabilities are limited or nonexistent after the devices have been shipped to consumers. However, this learned behavior does greatly assist with tasks performed by smartphones, including photography. With machine learning, datasets can be incorporated into a smartphone that "teach" the phone what a professional-style photo looks like. With this information, a device can analyze the photos you capture or the images being viewed by the lens, then adjust the image to mimic a pro-style photo. And to process all this, a piece of hardware called an "NPU" was born.
NPU: A New Type of ProcessorA Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU) is a component installed on or alongside the SoC that operates independently of the other parts (such as the CPU and GPU). The NPU is designed specifically to analyze and process machine learning data. While the CPU and the GPU can process this type of data, the NPU can process it faster and use less power doing so. This makes the entire SoC more power efficient, as all data is processed by the most efficient component. Before NPUs, some companies would use cloud computing to process machine learning data. However, this limits performance to the strength of the internet connection and prevents any processing when the web isn't available. With the push for smartphones in emerging markets where the internet isn't widely available (see Google's Android One program), NPUs will need to be included in phones' SoCs to bring machine learning to all markets.Eventually, these NPUs could become powerful enough to use the information provided by users to continue learning. By analyzing how you use your device, phones could better optimize themselves to your specific tendencies and usage and creep us closer to artificial intelligence. However, the way an NPU is used will depend on the manufacturer. As you will see, the three companies who added NPUs to their flagship phones this year utilize the component differently. That said, camera improvements seem to be the central theme so far.

1: Google's Pixel Visual Core: Machine Learning ISPGoogle has gone against the grain with their camera this year. Instead of deploying dual cameras like most other flagship devices, they opted for a single lens. To compensate for the lack of a second lens, they integrated machine learning into the Pixel 2's camera.Google Camera is the default camera app for Pixel devices, and its HDR+ feature has become a famous example of machine learning being used to improve smartphone photography. The app takes a large number of photos each time you press the shutter button, then uses machine learning to combine these photos in a way that results in better dynamic range.Prior to the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, the Google Camera app was dependent on Qualcomm's Hexagon DSP (Qualcomm's off-the-shelf NPU) to process any machine learning. However, this year's Pixel phones included a dedicated, Google-built NPU called the Pixel Visual Core. Google's Pixel Visual Core. Image via Google Essentially, Google is using its NPU as an ML-powered Image Signal Processor (ISP). The Google Camera app calls on the Pixel Visual Core to perform machine learning tasks that enhance photos and videos. HDR+ is just one example of Google's usage of machine learning, but the Pixel 2 packs several more ML-powered camera enhancements, including a portrait mode with only one lens. With the Android 8.1 Oreo update, the Pixel Visual Core has been unlocked for third-party apps. Now, any app that properly utilizes Android's Camera2 API can take advantage of the machine learning enhancements made by the Pixel Visual Core. Put simply, when you take a picture in an app like Instagram, Google's HDR+ algorithm and other machine learning enhancements will be applied to your photo as if you captured it with the default Google Camera app. Images captured with the Instagram app on the Pixel 2 XL before (left) and after (right) the Pixel Visual Core was activated for third-party apps. Images by Dallas Thomas/Gadget Hacks Thanks to machine learning, the Pixel 2 has become the standard for smartphone photography, besting even the iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8 in many areas. In order to achieve this, however, Google had to design their own NPU.Since the Pixel 2 uses Qualcomm's pre-made Snapdragon 835 SoC, adding a custom NPU would be difficult. Qualcomm already has the Hexagon DSP, which performs a similar task. Also, the Snapdragon 835 is the SoC of choice for all but a handful of flagship devices, so Qualcomm would prefer not to make special additions to their SoC just for one manufacturer. Therefore, Google opted to design its own NPU which operates both independently and in conjunction with the Qualcomm SoC.However, the greatest aspect of the Pixel Visual Core is its ability to perform such high-level computing five times faster than the CPU performs the same processes — and it does this while using 1/10th of the power. The addition of the Visual Core is how the Pixel 2 was able to surpass its competition's (and its predecessor's) photography performance.

2: Apple's Neural Engine: Depth Sensing & Face IDApple's decision to implement an NPU — known as the Neural Engine — was the result of a need. When Apple designed the new iPhone X with an edge-to-edge display, they knew that Touch ID would be affected. With no space to house the fingerprint scanner, Apple innovated by adding Face ID, a new method for secure authentication. However, to achieve security and reliability in a system that relies on facial recognition, an enormous amount of data needed to be collected and analyzed. According to Apple, each time an iPhone X user unlocks their device, thirty thousand dots align themselves along the user's face using infrared light. These dots create a map, which is than analyzed and processed by the Neural Engine to verify the user. Face ID is one the new features reliant on Apple's Neural Engine. Image by The Verge/YouTube The Neural Engine has two cores that perform real-time processing with a theoretical output of 600 billion operations per second. It is contained within the Image Signal Processor inside of Apple's acclaimed A11 Bionic SoC, and assists with everything from Face ID to photography. The Neural Engine is a part of the A11 Bionic chipset found in the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X. Image by Parameswaran B/YouTube For photography, the Neural Engine is used to achieve Portrait Mode on the front-facing camera. Instead of the dual lens available with the rear camera, Apple uses the information gathered from the various sensors that comprise Face ID and sends it to the NPU. The NPU analyzes the data and uses a system called TrueDepth to achieve the bokeh effect. The Neural Engine also analyzes various objects while taking a photo to improve image compression without distorting your photos. It even assists in tracking and focusing on subjects to help you take faster photos. In short, Apple is using their NPU in many of the same ways that Google used theirs, except Apple's is built into the SoC.

3: Huawei's NPU: An All-Around ApproachHuawei's approach to machine learning attempts to enhance everyday tasks such as security and overall performance. The Huawei-built Kirin 970 chipset has a dedicated NPU for several different machine learning computations, and has made its debut in the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro.The NPU is comprised of five "engines" that handle specific functions: A Vision Engine, Experience Engine, Performance Engine, Power Management Engine, and third-party App Engine. These engines are applied to improve efficiency in various tasks, such as lowering power consumption while using augmented reality and instantaneously translating text via Microsoft Translate. Huawei's NPU is a part of the Kirin 970 chipset. Image via Huawei Like Apple and Google, however, the Kirin 970's NPU is largely used to improve photography. There are two specific areas where machine learning helps: Before you take the shot and after you take the shot. Before an image is captured, the NPU provides real-time object recognition and scene adjustment. The NPU can help identify up to thirteen different scenes and objects as they appear on your display, and you'll be notified of this recognition with an icon in the bottom-left corner of your display (while in Auto Mode).Based on the objects and scene, the NPU will automatically configure the camera app with the optimal settings for the picture you're about to take. Then, after you take the photo, the image's colors, contrast, brightness, and other features will be automatically adjusted to provide professional quality photos. Ideally, Huawei wants users to not have fumble around menus to take great photos. Instead, the NPU handles all of that for you, so you can take professional style photos without any adjustment beforehand.Smartphone photography has gone through eras that have typically been defined by a big feature being adopted by major OEMs. First, we had higher megapixels, then optical image stabilization, secondary cameras, and optical zoom. Now, we're entering the machine learning era of smartphone photography, and the NPU is quite literally at the core of it all.How do you feel about this new era in smartphone photography? What do you predict the next one will be? How To: Add the Local Weather to Your iPhone's Status Bar for a Quick Glance Forecast

How To: Add the Local Weather to Your iPhone's Status Bar for a Quick Glance Forecast

While it may not serve much of a purpose here in sunny Los Angeles, it's still a good idea to keep constant tabs on the weather forecast, because you don't want anything to rain on your parade.Apple has its own Weather app that you can access from the home screen, and there's even some quick stats in your Notification Center to check out. Better yet, there's Yahoo Weather or one of the other 200+ weather apps in the iOS App Store. But for any of those, you need to jump into the actual app to get the information you want. Now, instead of using the NC or opening one of your weather apps, you can add your location's weather data right to your status bar so that it's available any time you want to glance at it. Image via wonderhowto.com Image via wonderhowto.com To get started, make sure you've got a jailbroken iPhone, then hop into Cydia to search for and install StatusForecast. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Install the tweak like normal, then respring your device.
Setting Up Your WOEID in StatusForecastGo to your iPhone's Settings app, then scroll down to where all the Cydia tweaks are and select StatusForecast. Now input your current location using its WOEID (short for Where On Earth ID), which is used by Yahoo to identify geographical areas. Since you probably don't know your WOEID, you can look it up here.

Customizing Your Status Bar Weather DataAfter you've entered your WOEID, you can change the displayed format to either be the date or the current time. Lastly, you can alter the format of how things appear in the status bar—all of the inputs are conditional based upon the text you enter, which may seem somewhat complicated, but it's actually pretty simple. If you read carefully, you'll be able to get everything in place where you wish. You can change the degrees from Celsius to Fahrenheit, remove the weather icon, or move the city and date/time around. So if, for example, you wanted your status bar to look like this: You should enter this: Where FH is the temperature in Fahrenheit, DEG is the degree symbol, ^ is a space, and ICON is the current weather icon. When entered into "WeatherFormat1", it means that information will be displayed before the time. "WeatherFormat2" means that information will be displayed after the time, in this case, ^ inputting a blank space followed by LA, where any all caps term will be displayed as a city (you can get creative here).

Respring to Save SettingsOnce all the changes have been made, you'll need to respring your device in order for them to take place. Now you have the current weather conveniently placed right in your status bar for quick viewing at anytime. Keep in mind that the weather location is static and does not adjust based on location, only by WOEID. So, if you're traveling, you'll need to enter a new WOEID to get weather updates for that location.

How To: Customize the Look of Your Google Calendar App on Android

How To: Customize the Look of Your Google Calendar App on Android
The Google Calendar app hasn't really changed much over the years. As a pre-installed staple on most Android devices, the interface is definitely lacking in some areas. Google knows this, and has plans in the pipeline to completely revamp Calendar's UI alongside Android 5.0's official release. But, if you'd rather not wait for the Lollipop update to come your way, a new Xposed module will allow you to tweak Calendar's interface right now. With options for nearly every aspect of the Month overview interface, you'll be able to see more of your upcoming schedule at a glance. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
RequirementsRooted Android device Xposed Framework installed Unknown Sources enabled

Step 1: Install 'GCalMonthDetails'First up, head to the Download section of your Xposed Installer app and search GCalMonthDetails, then tap the top result. From here, swipe over to the Versions tab, then hit the Download button next to the most recent entry. After a few seconds, Android's installer interface should come right up. Tap Install on this screen. When that's finished, you'll get a notification from Xposed letting you know that the module needs to be activated before you can use it. Tap the Activate and reboot button on this notification, and Xposed will take care of the rest.

Step 2: Adjust Month Overview Interface OptionsWhen you get back up, open GCalMonthDetail from your app drawer. The interface is simple—a set of sliders allow you to adjust the various elements of Google Calendar's Month view. Changes will take effect after you've closed and re-opened your Google Calendar app, so play around with the various sliders in GCalMonthDetail until you find the look that's right for you. (1) Default Month View, (2) Modified Month View With the sliders adjusted to your liking, you'll now be able to see lots of extra detail in the month overview of your Google Calendar app. Where before, appointments were only denoted by a tiny colored rectangle, event descriptions and times are now clearly seen. How To: The Trick to Emailing More Than Five Photos at Once in iOS 7 (Plus, a Better Way to Do It)

How To: The Trick to Emailing More Than Five Photos at Once in iOS 7 (Plus, a Better Way to Do It)
I know it's a very first-world problem, but I really can't stand it. Email was invented to speed up communications between people across the world, even just across the office, yet when I'm on my super awesome iPhone running iOS 7, I have to go back and forth between my gallery and my email to send more than five photos at one time.Does someone at Apple think that five pictures is the optimal number for sharing a photo album? What if I went to yoga class and finally got those pictures of the dime that stretches in front of me to show all my friends? The faster I can attach those to an email and send them out, the prouder they'll be of me. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

The Single-Shot Method for Adding Photos to EmailsSo, the standard way to send multiple photos via email on iOS 7 is to open the mail app, compose a message, and then tap and hold the are inside the message body. The magnifying bubble will popup and you can release to reveal the horizontal menu. Tap to the right and select "Insert Photo or Video." You will then be taken to your Photos where you can choose ONE photo or video. That selected video or photo will then be added to the body of your email message. You can repeat this process in order to add more than five images, but obviously this is not fast or efficient at all.

The Five-Shot Method for Adding Photos to EmailsThis method speeds up the process a bit by actually going into the Camera Roll first and selecting five images to share. In your Camera Roll, hit Select in the top left and choose your photos. You'll notice that you can select more than five images, but if you do so the option to email those images disappears. It's crazy. So, if you select only five, the email option will appear and you can add the images to your email. To add more than just those five, you'll have to enact the first method I covered above to add more one-by-one.

The Non-Apple Method That Makes It Even EasierEven though there are default workarounds, sometimes you just want things to be easy, and Kicksend makes sending large amounts of photos on your iPhone super easy. After installing the free app, select Send and Receive Photos at the bottom of the main page. You'll have to go through the process of signing up; you can use Facebook, Google Plus, or create a Kicksend account.Since this app is mostly meant for sending photos to a printing shop, the app requires your phone number in order to contact you about an order you may have. The app will then send a 3-digit verification code to you via text. Put this code in where asked and you can now begin sending photos. After entering in your information, you'll then need to give it access to your Photos. Once access is given, you can select the photos you wish to send—and yes, you can select more than five. After selecting you photos, you can allow Kicksend access to your Contacts for quickly adding a recipient, or you can just enter in an email address or phone number manually. If you choose a number, the recipient will receive a text message with a link to the photos. Same goes for an email address. So there you have it. You have your standard methods of sending more than five photos on iOS 7, and you have Kicksend, which makes it a little faster, although you do have to sign up for a service. Which way do you think is the easiest?

How To: Conserve Data When Tethering to Your Personal Hotspot

How To: Conserve Data When Tethering to Your Personal Hotspot
I'm lucky enough to have internet access on my laptop practically everywhere I go because of my mobile hotspot plan. All I have to do is enable the personal hotspot feature from my iPhone and I can surf the web on any Wi-Fi enabled device. But of course, there's a catch.I only have 2 GB of cellular data available per month, and it goes by pretty quickly. While there are ways to manage it (not watching too many high-definition videos, not downloading huge files, etc.), background activity can use up a substantial amount of data.Designed by a team of three from Switzerland, TripMode gives you the power to pick and choose which applications on your Mac are allowed internet access and which are not, saving all of that precious portable hotspot data for the things that matter.

How to Restrict Access to Certain Mac Apps When TetheringYou can download the free TripMode version from their website; after it's finished downloading, open the TripMode.pkg file to begin installation. Once installed, you can choose to either purchase the app for $7.99 or test out the fully-functional 7-day trial. If you don't want to spend any money, you can still continue using the free version after the trial ends, but you will be limited to using the app for 15 minutes a day. TripMode will exist in your menu bar as a black train icon; when you click on it, you'll see an option to toggle the service on/off, and it will show you the amount of data used, either for the last session, current session, or for the full month (you can use the drop-down to switch between these). When the service is activated, you'll see a list of apps that are attempting to access the internet on your Mac. Allow access by checking the box next to the app, or leave it unchecked to keep it from using any web data. It'll also show you the amount of data used for each app that's checked, so you can identify data hogs that you can either uncheck or use less.Note that all uploads and downloads will be disabled when TripMode is on, to further protect your cellular data cap. Overall, TripMode is a great app to use whenever you're connected to your smartphone's hotspot. It'll stop automatic updates, online backups, and photo syncing from occurring in the background—all of which can cost you data and would be better allocated to apps that you are actually using on your Mac.

Your iPhone can use its cellular data connection to create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot that your Mac (or iPad) can connect to. How To: Get Samsung's Multi-Window Mode on Your Nexus 5

How To: Get Samsung's Multi-Window Mode on Your Nexus 5
Multitasking has traditionally been one of Android's strengths. As the first mobile operating system to introduce true multi-process management, it even took things a step further after version 4.0 by dedicating a button to your recently-used apps. With the release of Windows 8, however, Android has fallen behind in this regard. Microsoft's new operating system for computers and mobile devices alike can show a split-screen view of multiple apps.Samsung has tried to bring Android up to snuff with their manufacturer-skinned version of Google's OS, TouchWiz. They've added a multi-window mode that can be accessed from a sidebar, where you choose an app to place over top, or beneath, a current app.And now, thanks to some great work by Xposed developer Chin Z and an interfacing app designed by Manzel Seet, we can have this same functionality on the Nexus 5 and other Nexus phones and tablets. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
PrerequisitesRooted Nexus 5 (or other rooted Nexus device) Xposed Framework Unknown Sources enabled

Step 1: Install XMultiWindowThe first part of this softMod is made possible by the Xposed module XMultiWindow. We've covered this module before, so check out Neil's guide on the Nexus 7 for a more in-depth review of the module itself. To get it installed, though, open up the Xposed Installer app and head into the Download section. Search XMultiWindow and tap the corresponding result. From the next screen, hit Download to launch the install process. You can also install the APK directly from here. Once installed, be sure to activate the module and reboot.

Step 2: Install MultiWindow SidebarThe Xposed module you just installed provided the base multi-window functionality. For the user interface aspect of it all, we'll install another app. From your Nexus, tap this link to download the app, then press OK. When the download is finished, tap the notification to install the app.

Step 3: Configure MultiWindow SidebarNow that you've got the app installed, a little initial setup is needed. From the app's main screen, tap Toggle Service to get things going. If you plan on using this feature full time, go ahead and tick the box next to Start on Boot so that the service will always run. Then hit App Launch Mode and select XMultiWindow. Next, you'll have to add some apps to the sidebar, so tap Select Apps. From here, hit the Add App button at the top, then choose an app to have in your sidebar, and repeat this process for all the apps you want spilt screen access to. Next, back out to the app's main screen to configure a few more settings. There are options to choose which side of the screen the trigger bubble shows on, themes for the sidebar, and size of the trigger area.

Step 4: Launch Multi-Window ModeNow that you've got everything set up, let's go over some of the new features. The sidebar is accessible from anywhere by tapping the trigger button. You can move this button freely on the side of the screen you selected in the settings.Tap the trigger button, and a mini-drawer of apps appears—this is the sidebar. From here, you can drag an app onto the top or bottom half of your screen, and it will load on top of whatever app you were already using. This is really useful if you're reading or watching a video about something and you'd like to peek into a different app to learn more. When you're ready to exit the split-screen view, just hit your back button and the app you started from the sidebar will close. What apps are in your sidebar? How has this new feature saved you time on your Nexus 5? Let us know in the comments section below.

How To: Take Partial Screenshots on Android

How To: Take Partial Screenshots on Android
Being able to take screenshots on Android isn't something we were always able to do. It was added to stock Android in Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 (Gingerbread 2.3, if you were a Samsung TouchWiz user) as a simple full screen screenshot, and that's the way it's remained ever since—until now.Google is rumored to be in the process of adding partial screenshots to stock Android in the future, and Samsung and LG have done a spectacular job of adding it to TouchWiz and LG UX in recent years. The feature is quite useful, too, as it lets you easily crop screenshots to share only a small portion of your screen. However, Google isn't going to come in third place in the partial screenshot race. Third place goes to Senior Member Flextrick on XDA-Developers, who has created an app that allows users of Android KitKat 4.1 and above to take partial screenshots on their devices without the need for any extra steps, besides simply taking a screenshot!Don't Miss: How to Get Samsung's 'Long Screenshots' Feature on Any Android

Step 1: Install Screenshot Crop & ShareThe app that beat Google to the punch is called Screenshot Crop & Share, and it is available for free on the Google Play Store. Flextrick also has a Google+ community specifically for this app to make using and troubleshooting as simple as possible, as he updates it frequently and is always looking for feedback.Install Screenshot Crop & Share for free from the Google Play Store

Step 2: Grant Required PermissionsThe first launch of Screenshot Crop & Share will welcome you with a very nice introduction explaining the features of the app. It will also request the required permissions in order for full functionality, so make sure to grant those. Hit "Ready" when everything is green and good to go, then make sure to grant the storage permission request that'll pop up if you're on Android Marshmallow or higher. Enabling permissions for Screenshot Crop & Share.

Step 3: Take a Partial ScreenshotWhen the app is all set up, feel free to exit it and take your first screenshot. You don't need to do anything special, just capture a screenshot like you normally would. When you do that, a Material Design bubble toolbar will open up and give you a variety of options—including edit, share, delete, save and cancel. We want to take a partial screenshot, so we'll select the edit option (the pencil). Make your changes, and then save your partial screenshot—it's as easy as that. Using Screenshot Crop & Share to easily crop a screenshot.

The Best PartThe best part is that this app will work on all Android versions, from Android KitKat to the latest version of Android Nougat. And it doesn't matter if your phone has a manufacturer skin—from stock Android to Samsung's TouchWiz to LG's UX to HTC's Sense, this app has you covered. How To: Stream Games from Your Windows PC to Your iPhone

How To: Stream Games from Your Windows PC to Your iPhone
The greatest pain in owning a high-powered gaming PC is the simple fact that you can't play it all the time. Sometimes you have work or school, and other times, you may just want to go mobile. When something like this impedes your ability to play PC games, you may end up settling for mobile games. What if, instead of doing that, you were able to play your PC games from your iPhone?Let me introduce KinoConsole, a free app that lets you stream games from your Windows PC to your iPhone in HD. It's a little tricky to set up, but once you get the hang of it, streaming your favorite games will be a breeze. The only limitation is that your devices need to be on the same network. After you set everything up, you'll enjoy buttery smooth gameplay being broadcasted to your iPhone from your PC all the way in the next room. If that doesn't scream "the future is now," nothing does.
Step 1: Install Kinoni StreamerFirst, let me clear up some confusion with the naming scheme for this suite of apps. On Windows it's called Kinoni Streamer, and on mobile it's called KinoConsole. Kinoni themselves don't always stick with this naming convention either, so don't get to hung up on it.To start, download Kinoni Streamer on your PC, then launch the EXE file and follow the prompts to get the Windows portion of the software suite installed.

Step 2: Set a PasswordOnce you install Kinoni Streamer, the first thing you should do is set a password. This will allow you to give your phone access to your PC when you use it to play games. This added level of security is much appreciated, as it stops just anybody from being able to gain access to your games. To do so, open the Kinoni Streamer app on your PC and make sure the Connection tab is selected. From there, enter a password in the Password field, then confirm your password by entering it again in the Re-type Password field. Finally, click "OK" to save your password.

Step 3: Add Your Favorite GamesThis step is probably the most complicated one, so pay attention. Head over to the Quick Launch tab in Kinoni Streamer's main menu to begin. Here, you'll need to choose which games can be streamed to your iPhone.Click "Browse," bringing up Windows Explorer. You'll need to manually select each game, and sometimes they're located in drastically different places. I'll walk you through finding your Steam games, as that's the most popular place for people to play games. If you're looking for the application folder for a non-Steam game, your best bet would be to Google "<game name> file location Windows." Go to the hard drive where your Steam Games are (probably your C:\ drive). Next, click on the "SteamLibrary" folder, then "steamapps," and finally "common." Inside the "common" folder, you'll see all the Steam games that are in your Library.Double-click on a folder to open it, and find the application. You'll know it's the application itself as its "type" is displayed as "Application" in Windows Explorer, and it's the only file in the folder with the game's icon. If there are two files that show the game's icon, one is likely not an "Application." Once you've clicked on the application file, click "Open" in the bottom-right corner. After that, repeat this same process for any other games you'd like to stream to your iPhone. Once you get a few games loaded in the Quick Launch tab, click "OK" in the bottom-right corner. This will close out the application window on your computer, but it'll keep running in the background.

Step 4: Install KinoConsole on Your iPhoneNext, you'll need to install the KinoConsole app on your iPhone. To do that, either search for "KinoConsole" on the App Store, or just use this link to jump directly to it. Tap on "Get" to download and install it (you may need to use Touch ID or Face ID to continue), then open it up.

Step 5: Enter Your PasswordNext, make sure your iPhone is connected to the same local network as your PC. When you open up KinoConsole, your computer's name should show up, and it'll have a padlock on it. This indicates that you need to enter in the password that you set up on your PC in Step 2, so tap on the padlock and enter your password.

Step 6: Play a GameYour games should appear on the main screen now, and they should be the exact same ones you added via Kinoni Streamer in Step 3. If you tap on a game, it'll be launched on your computer, which then gets mirrored to your iPhone via KinoConsole. Before you run off, though, read the rest of the article to learn the in-game control system.

Step 7: Learn the in-Game MenuOnce you launch a game, slide out from the left side of the screen to open the in-game menu. Each of the four options here are integral to your gaming experience, so don't shy away from testing each one thoroughly.

Option 1: Mouse ModeThe first button in the slide-out in-game menu is "Mouse mode," which toggles between two options. The first option is enabled by default, and it lets you use your finger to drag items. The second option doesn't have any clear applications, but it seemed to do the trick when the first one was behaving incorrectly. The first option displays a circle around the mouse pointer, while the second one does not.

Option 2: Keyboard ModeWhile using a virtual keyboard isn't the best way to play games, typing can be important in games for communication or for logging in. When you hit a snag, tap on the keyboard icon in the in-game menu to bring up your keyboard. Exit keyboard mode by tapping the icon again.

Option 3: Edit Game ControlsUnlike other solutions and games, KinoConsole has no on-screen controls by default. While this may seem like a hassle at first, it's actually liberating to only use the controls you need. Instead of superimposing an Xbox controller onto the screen, you get to mix and match which controls you need for any given game.KinoConsole, in-turn, saves each configuration on a per-game basis — so don't worry about needing to reconfigure each game every time. You're also free to connect your own Bluetooth controller if you'd like. KincoConsole has full support for them.Tap the third option (the wrench icon) in the in-app menu to get into edit mode. You know that you're in edit mode because a red rectangle will frame the screen. Add a new control by long-pressing where you want to add it. A menu will appear, where you get to choose exactly which control you want to add. The scheme and naming conventions mirror the Xbox 360 and Xbox One style, so the "A" button would be located in the bottom-middle on the right side. Of course, you can put it anywhere you want, but the game will act like it's located there. You can move around a control by dragging it — while you're still in edit mode, of course. You can also modify or remove a control. First long-press it to bring up two icons: Arrows and an "X." If you tap on the "X," the control will be deleted. Tap on the arrows to resize the control or change opacity. Resize the control by pinching (like making a picture larger), and change the opacity by performing a rotating gesture (like you're turning a radio knob). When you're done, swipe from the left again and tap on the wrench icon to stop editing the controls. Then, you can use the controls you created to navigate the game.

Option 4: Close the GameThe fourth option, which looks like a power button, fittingly closes the game, bringing you back to the "Games" page in KincoConsole. And there you have it. Now you won't need to be near your gaming PC in order to take advantage of all that it has to offer. What have you been playing via KinoConsole? Have you enjoyed your seamless 720p streaming?
