News: Google Teases Nexus 6 in Leaked Android Ads

Amid rumors of a 6-inch phablet Nexus and the impending release of Android "L", Google posted—then quickly removed—a trio of ads for their industry-leading mobile OS. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Boasting a new slogan of be together. not the same, the Mountain View tech giant looks to be touting Android's wide variety of supported devices as its biggest strength. But the most intriguing news here is an apparent confirmation of the rumored Nexus 6. Previous leaks indicate that Google has been working with Motorola on a 6-inch Quad HD phablet, and the third leaked ad in the series seems to verify these claims. As a group of Androidified folks wait at a bus stop, one of the characters pulls out a rather large phone in the mold of a Moto X. The on-screen navigation buttons are identical to those found in the preview version of the upcoming Android "L" release, so it's safe to assume we're looking at an animated version of the Nexus 6. The ads, which were intended for use during YouTube videos, link to a site that shares its name with the new Android slogan. While not yet operational, the BeTogetherNotTheSame.com domain name was purchased 10 days ago, indicating that Google will be promoting its mobile operating system like never before. As new versions of Android are typically launched alongside a Nexus device, Android "L" and the Nexus 6 look to be fast upon us. Which are you more excited about? Let us know in the comments section below, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.UpdateThe leaks are really starting to pour in now. This morning, long-time Android insider Evan Blass (AKA @evleaks) posted the first official render of the new Nexus 6. While not an actual photo of the device, this official press rendering gives us our first clean look at the Moto X-inspired phablet, which includes several new Material Design home screen icons. As if that weren't enough to get you riled up, Android head Sundar Pichai posted a video teasing the common name of the upcoming Android release. Heretofore dubbed simply "L", the video confirms the version number of this release will be 5.0. But the common name is left up for speculation—we know it'll be named after a dessert that starts with the letter "L", but that's about it. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
As the "audition" depicted here speculates, there are many delicious dessert codenames to choose from. Black and red Licorice make subtle cameos, and Lemon Meringue Pie is shown front-and-center. Conspicuously absent, however, is the obvious choice—Lollipop.According to Jay McGregor of Forbes, both the Nexus 6 and a Nexus 9 tablet will be announced tomorrow via a simple blog post. Pre-orders are slated for October 17th, with both devices being ready for purchase on November 3rd. No word yet on when Android 5.0 will be made available to existing devices, but stay tuned right here for future updates.

How To: Bypass the LG G3's Dual Window Restrictions for Use with Any App
Watching a YouTube video while surfing the web is real multitasking, and easily achievable on the LG G3. Like the "Multi Window" feature on Samsung Galaxy devices, the G3 has the ability to run two separate apps simultaneously with its Dual Window feature.Unfortunately, you're only limited to stock, Google apps in Dual Window mode, so playing a game and watching Netflix isn't a possibility.Thankfully, developer Abdullah Gheith wasn't having it and developed a mod so all G3 users could add Dual Window compatibility to third-party apps. In order to install the mod, you will have to have a rooted LG G3. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Install Multi Window ModThe mod can be found on the Play Store for $0.99 using this link, or you can check out the developer's thread on XDA to get a generously offered free version for testing. The paid version does offer the ability to hide LG apps from your list, so if you want the full-powered version, I'd go with that one.

Step 2: Set Up Your AppsOpen the app and grant it Superuser permission, then select the apps you want to use in Dual Window, hit Apply, then Reboot to save.

Step 3: Use Your Enhanced Dual WindowOpen the Dual Window option and your selected apps will be available to use—just drag and drop them like you normally would, and use Twitter while you Instagram, or whatever else you want to do. If you love doing two things at once, then you'll want to give this a try. Let us know what you think, and which apps you like using in Dual Windows, in the comments below.

How To: Install the Sling TV App on Your Nexus Player

How To: Install the Sling TV App on Your Nexus Player

UPDATE 5/21/15Dish Network has finally released the official version of its SlingTV app for the Nexus Player and other Android TV devices. The app can be installed through the Google Play Store, where you'll find it front and center in the "Entertainment Apps" category. As aweseome as this news is, it gets even better: Dish and Google have teamed up to offer the Nexus Player for 50% off when you prepay for 3 months of Sling TV service. It's a whale of a deal, with the powerful Nexus Player costing a total of $49.50. For more information on this offer, check out the official site on Sling.com.END UPDATEWhen Dish Network announced a new $20/month streaming cable service called Sling TV, I was excited to hear that the Nexus Player would be supported. So excited, in fact, that I signed up to be a beta tester and started using the service before it even went public.Well, here I am now, 3 months into my membership, and Sling has still not released a Nexus Player-compatible version of its app. Sure, there's a version for Android devices, but it refuses to install on Android TV devices.Rather than canceling my subscription (I still have a Roku and a handful of Android devices, after all), I decided to learn how to add Leanback Launcher code to existing Android apps. After some trial and error, I've finally got the Sling TV app working flawlessly on the Nexus Player. So if you're set up for sideloading apps, read on past the jump to see how to install this version of Sling TV on your Nexus Player.

Step 1: Download the APK & Transfer the File to Your Nexus PlayerBasically, what I've done here is decompile the installer file for the official Sling TV Android app, add in a bit of code and a Leanback Launcher banner icon, then recompile the APK. As a result, the app can be installed on your Nexus Player like any other. To begin, download the modified APK file from this link. When the file has finished downloading, transfer it over to your Nexus Player's internal storage.

Step 2: Install Sling TV on Your Nexus PlayerNext up, use any file browser app to open the APK installer file. When Android's traditional installer interface comes up, simply click "Install." With that done, head back to the home screen, then launch the Sling TV app. The banner-style icon that I've added should ensure that the app blends right in on your home screen. You'll have to log in with your account credentials before you can use Sling TV, so click the "Sign In" button near the top of the screen to take care of that.

Step 3: Using the Sling TV AppThis version of Sling TV can be completely controlled with the Nexus Player's regular remote or gamepad—no mouse is required. To bring up the channel guide, simply press the down arrow on your remote. From here, use the left and right arrows on your remote to flip between channels, then press the enter button to begin watching a particular network's live feed. It's incredibly simple to use, and all features that are available on other platforms are now available on your Nexus Player.I should note that this APK is signed differently than the official Android version. This means that if Dish ever gets around to releasing the official Sling TV app that they promised months ago, you'll have to uninstall this version before installing the official client. Are there any other apps that you'd like me to add the Leanback Launcher code to? Let me know in the comment section below, or on Facebook, Google+, or Twitter, and I'll see what I can do with the most popular requests.

News: 30+ Privacy & Security Settings in iOS 12 You Should Check Right Now

There's always an iPhone in our list of top phones for privacy and security, due in large part to advanced security measures like Face ID, consistent iOS updates, and easy ways to prevent unwanted access and excessive data sharing. However, some of those options actually do the opposite and hinder security. It all depends on how you use your iPhone, but you should at least know everything available.Like previous iOS versions, iOS 12 has a lot of privacy and security-related features to dig through, and how you use them will vary depending on how secure you want to make your iPhone. We've rounded up some of the most important security settings you should know about, from blocking access to outside users, hackers, and thieves to limiting how much data you share with Apple and third-parties.While there are a few Safari-related tips below, Safari is its own beast which houses a ton of security features itself. We listed some of the most important ones here, but check out our guide on all the Safari privacy settings you should know about.Don't Miss: 21 Safari Privacy Settings You Need to Check on Your iPhone
1. Use a Stronger PasscodeYour iPhone's numeric passcode is set to six digits by default, but you can still set it to four digits for faster access. As convenient as the latter option is, it's nowhere near as secure as the former. To put things in perspective, a four-digit passcode has 10,000 possible combinations while a six-digit one has one million —the same odds as Face ID.If you want to maximize your iPhone's security, however, you may want to switch from a passcode to a password, as using a true password or passphrase with a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters will make your device virtually impossible to crack. You could also choose a bigger numeric-only passcode.Full Guide: How to Create a Strong (Or Stronger) Passcode for Your iPhone Settings –> Face ID & Passcode –>

Settings –> Touch ID & Passcode –>
Change Passcode –> Passcode Options Obviously, a complicated password is far from ideal if quick accessibility is important to you, but it's currently the most secure way to lock your iPhone. So if you want to strike a great balance between convenience and security, a six-digit or bigger numeric PIN is the way to go, just be sure to steer clear of stay common passcodes like 123456 or all of the same number.

2. Audit Your PasswordsIn an effort to enhance website and app security, Apple introduced the Password Reuse Auditing feature for iCloud Keychain in iOS 12 to keep track of saved passwords and check for identical ones for different accounts.Full Guide: Find & Change Weak Reused Passwords More Easily in iOS 12 Settings —> Pasword & Accounts —>
Website & App Passwords Any accounts that share the same password will be flagged with a triangle containing an exclamation point. Hit any of the accounts in question, and tap on "Change Password on Website" on the following page to create a new password for the suspect account. However, is it even a good idea to keep passwords in iCloud Keychain?
3. Delete Saved Passwords for Apps & WebsitesThe same iCloud Keychain seen above is Apple's default password manager on your iPhone, and these passwords are protected by your iPhone's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. However, if someone ever gains entry into your iPhone and has your passcode, they'll have total access to all of your passwords. Settings –> Passwords & Accounts –>
Website & App Passwords —>
(Delete Your Passwords) When in the "Website & App Passwords" menu, to remove them one at a time, swipe left on each password and tap on "Delete." To delete numerous passwords at once, hit "Edit" in the top-right corner, select each one you want to erase, then tap "Delete" to wrap up.

4. Use Automated Two-Factor AuthenticationShort for two-factor authentication, 2FA gives you an added layer of security for apps and other services in the form of a numeric security code. Some accounts you may have would rather you use third-party authenticator apps, but for those that are still based on text messages, the process is now easier.Instead of juggling between apps to retrieve and input a time-sensitive code, you can use AutoFill. Now that it's easier to input these code, you should go back and revisit accounts that contain sensitive data and enable 2FA if it's available.Full Guide: How to Use Security Code AutoFill from SMS Texts in iOS 12
5. Use Biometrics to Confirm App Store PurchasesWhenever money is involved, it's always a great idea to err on the side of caution to protect your wallet from unwanted use, and this extends to the App Store. That said, we highly recommend beefing up the App Store's security to require your authorization before purchasing any apps. This will prevent an unauthorized user from potentially going on an App Store shopping spree at your expense. Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>
iTunes & App Store (On)

-OR-

Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
iTunes & App Store (On) If you don't use Face ID or Touch ID, you should set App Store purchases to "Always Require" your Apple ID password to maximize security, which is in a different settings menu. In addition to this, you can also enable the same requirement for "Free Downloads." Settings —> Your Name —>
iTunes & App Stores —>
Password Settings —>

6. Block Shady USB Accessories from Your iPhoneLaw enforcement agencies across the US have relied upon brute-force unlocking tools like Cellbrite and GrayShift to bypass passcode locks on confiscated devices, due to their ability to circumvent iOS restrictions on the number of incorrect attempts before becoming disabled. With these USB tools, agents are able to enter an unlimited number of passcodes until they finally hit the jackpot. To combat this, Apple rolled out with USB Restricted Mode, which essentially requires you to unlock your iPhone with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode whenever you connect to a USB device. If that weren't enough, Apple also narrowed the authentication requirement for iPhones that haven't been unlocked for one or more hours compared to the seven-day time frame before.Full Guide: Keep Data-Thieving USB Accessories Out of Your iPhone Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>
USB Accessories (Off)

-OR-

Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
USB Accessories (Off) This stringent requirement effectively nullifies law enforcement's ability to unlock suspect iPhones with USB unlocking tools, as they will have at most a 60-minute window to gain access to the device before the password requirement kicks in.
7. Disable Face ID on the Lock Screen (iPhone X & Above)Since its introduction with the iPhone X, Face ID has proved itself a worthy successor to Touch ID in regards to keeping your iPhone secure from unwanted access. Even still, the feature isn't perfect. Apple claims a false acceptance rate of one in a million, which translates to about 7,600 other faces that may be able to spoof your phone, given earth's total population of 7.6 billion. To make matters worse, there's the ever-present risk being forced to use your face to unlock your device against your will. So your best bet would be to turn off its unlock abilities or disable Face ID altogether and stick with the good old passcode or password method on the lock screen to maximize your iPhone's security.Don't Miss: Tips to Make Face ID Work Every Time on the iPhone X Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>

Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>

8. Disable Face ID Temporarily (iPhone X & Above)If you want to keep on using Face ID on the lock screen due to the sheer convenience it brings, the next best thing to protecting your device before it's ripped out of your hand by thieves or law enforcement is disabling Face ID using button presses. The law can make you use your face to unlock your iPhone but they can't force you to enter a passcode, which is what will happen after disabling Face ID.Full Guide: How to Quickly Disable Face ID on Your iPhone X
9. Disable Touch ID on the Lock Screen (iPhone 8 & Below)Like Face ID, the Touch ID feature found on Home button-equipped iPhones is not without its limitations. For one, the fact that your fingerprint data is stored within your iPhone can be problematic, as someone could potentially pull that sensitive information if your iPhone is accessed without your consent. And similar to Face ID, your fingerprint can also be forcibly used against your will to get into your device. Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
iPhone Unlock (Off)

-OR-

Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
Fingerprints (Delete All) You can disable only Touch ID's unlocking abilities or delete all the registered fingerprints to kill Touch ID for good. The first option may be good enough for you.
10. Disable Touch ID Temporarily (iPhone 8 & Below)As the precursor to Face ID, it's only natural that Touch ID also has the option to be quickly disabled on a temporary basis to prevent it from being used against your will to access your iPhone. By pressing your iPhone's buttons in a certain sequence, you can shut off your iPhone's Touch ID before giving it up, be they nosy loved ones, would-be thieves, or law enforcement.Full Guide: How to Quickly Disable Touch ID on Your iPhone
11. Disable & Clear Significant LocationsTo enhance some apps that rely on location services, your iPhone has been given the ability to log locations that you frequently visit through the "Significant Locations" setting. Obviously, the convenience the feature brings is at the expense of privacy, which is a huge deal. So if you'd rather not let Apple know about places you visit on a regular basis, disable the feature. You can also clear the history that your iPhone may have accumulated over time. Settings —> Privacy —>
Location Services —>
System Services —>
Significant Locations —>
Significant Locations (Off)

12. Disable Location-Based Alerts, Apple Ads & SuggestionsLocation-based alerts, Apple ads, and suggestions are all able to track your location to give you more targeted ads, notifications, and apps you might like for a more personalized experience overall. Naturally, having these options enabled not only severely compromises your privacy, but in some cases, they are downright creepy. Settings —> Privacy —>
Location Services —>
System Services —>
Location-Based (Off) Just make sure all three toggles are turned off (not green) in the settings, and you won't have to worry about getting location-based alerts, ads, or suggestions.
13. Turn Off 'Share My Location'As the name implies, "Share My Location" lets you share where you currently are with a loved one who requests it. Granted, you and the other person will need to mutually agree to the arrangement using the Find My Friends app, but there are ways of tracking your iPhone without your consent. Settings —> Privacy —>
Location Services —>
Share My Location —>
Share My Location (Off) If you'd rather not take any chances, disable it. Beyond that, you can also designate a different device that broadcasts your whereabouts if you have other iOS devices connected to your Apple ID by tapping on "From" within the "Share My Location" page.
14. Prevent Your Parked Location from Being ShownUnbeknownst to you, your iPhone may be recording your parked location if you've connected it either through Bluetooth or CarPlay. Without a doubt, this information can come in handy if you often have trouble remembering where you parked. But if you're uncomfortable with the inherent breach of privacy that comes with the feature, you should consider disabling it for peace of mind. Settings —> Maps —>
Show Parked Location (Off)
15. Disable All of Apple's AnalyticsOnce known as "Diagnostics & Usage," the revamped "Analytics" page buried within your iPhone's Settings contains numerous options that let your device share data with Apple to report bugs in the system and make iOS a better platform overall. While this information helps Apple detect issues to ensure smooth operation, it may come at the cost of your privacy. Settings —> Privacy —> Analytics If you'd like to cut off the secretive status reports your device sends over to Apple, there are several options you can disable in the "Analytics" menu. Note that you may not see all of these depending on your devices, settings, and app use.Share iPhone Analytics: The very top option, which can also have "Apple Watch" included if you own and use one, can be turned off to kill all analytics with Apple. Share With App Developers: Turn this off to stop sharing your app data with that app's developer. Share iCloud Analytics: Disable this to prevent Apple from using data sourced from your iCloud account to improve on apps and services that rely on such information. Improve Health & Activity: Toggle this off to stop transmission of health and activity-related information with Apple to improve these services on your iPhone. Improve Health Records: Disable it to stop vital health conditions such as past lab results, medications, along with other conditions from being shared to Apple. Improve Wheelchair Mode: This will send Apple your activity data if you use a wheelchair, which may be useful if you actually use a wheelchair. If not, it should be off.

16. Keep Ad Tracking to a MinimumIf you don't want ads that are directly targeted towards you and your interests, you'll want to enable the "Limit Ad Tracking" to lessen Apple's ability to share your data with advertisers. It's worth mentioning that, as the name implies, this option merely limits ad tracking instead of stopping it outright. So even with this setting enabled, Apple claims that your iPhone connectivity, time setting, type, language, location, model, and time setting can still be used against you. Settings —> Privacy —> Advertising —>
Limit Ad Tracking (On) If you disabled Location-Based Ads from a previous tip, ad targeting using your location will not apply to you, but everything else will. For more details, be sure to hit "View Ad Information" within the "Advertising" page to learn more.
17. Keep Lock Screen Notifications PrivateWhen you get a notification, whether an email, text, or other type of communication, the whole message or a small snippet of it will appear on your lock screen. These can be read by anyone within eye's view but can be prevented by disabling previews for the apps you don't want anyone to glance at but yourself. You can still view them on the lock screen using Face ID or Touch ID if you want.Full Guide: Keep Private Messages on Your Lock Screen for Your Eyes Only
18. Prevent Replying in MessagesIf you have an iPhone with 3D Touch or Haptic Touch, you can reply to a message straight from its notification on your lock screen — without unlocking your iPhone. However, this only applies if you still have notification previews enabled for the app in question, otherwise, you would need to unlock first. As convenient as this feature is, it opens the door to unwanted access, as it makes it significantly easier for people to "reply" to messages on your behalf. Needless to say, you should disable this option if you're concerned about giving just about anyone the ability to reply to incoming messages on your iPhone.Full Guide: Keep Others from Replying to Messages on Your Lock Screen
19. Auto-Delete Old MessagesAs far as old texts and iMessages go, Apple permanently saves them on your iPhone by default and basically leaves it up to you to manually delete. Even with Messages in iCloud enabled, messages will still be kept locally. As such, erasing conversations can be a mind-numbing process, especially if you've made manually cleaning out old messages a part of your monthly routine due to privacy concerns.Fortunately, your iPhone has an option for automatically deleting old messages once a certain period of time has elapsed. You can select either "30 Days" or "1 Year" to ensure your conversations are erased once they reach the length of time you've set.Full Guide: How to Permanently Delete Text Messages on Your iPhone Settings —> Messages —> Keep Messages
20. Disable 'Raise to Wake'When enabled, "Raise to Wake" lets you instantly wake your iPhone simply by raising it from a flat position. However, the functionality has some drawbacks with regards to privacy and security. For example, anyone within view of your device's display may see messages and other notifications that are only for your eyes. Luckily, it can be disabled, and for extra privacy on the lock screen, don't forget you can disable previews as mentioned above. Settings —> Display & Brightness —>
Raise to Wake (Off)
21. Stop Using Lock Screen WidgetsDisplaying widgets on your iPhone's lock screen is a convenient method of instantly viewing a wide array of information, including calendar events, battery stats, reminders, news, favorite phone contacts, and packages coming to your door. All this data can be viewed without unlocking the iPhone, a possible privacy concern. Anyone who can pick up your iPhone can view calendar events to track your location, package shipments they can snag from your door, and if you've been talking to people you shouldn't be.To keep this potential privacy breach from becoming reality, you could hit "Edit" at the bottom of the lock screen, then delete all widgets. Going this this route, however, will result in the loss of all those widgets from your iPhone's Today View, in addition to the lock screen. If you just want to kill widgets for only the lock screen, there are a couple ways to go about it.Full Guide: How to Completely Remove Widgets from Your Lock Screen
22. Disable Control Center on Lock ScreenYou can customize the toggles in the Control Center with a number of different features and options. As great as these additions are as far as accessibility, they also have the potential of compromising your privacy and security. Most content-sensitive apps require a passcode from the lock screen to access these shortcuts, but there are apps that give limited access without having to unlock your iPhone. Having Notes activated, for instance, gives anyone the ability to freely access it straight from the Control Center to write notes, though they cannot view written notes without unlocking your iPhone first. You can disable apps and tools individually from the Control Center to prevent unwanted access, but this will kill access from the feature outright, even when your iPhone is unlocked. So you may want to disable the Control Center on the lock screen entirely.Don't Miss: Use & Customize the Control Center on Your iPhone Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>
Control Center (Off)

-OR-

Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
Control Center (Off) Apple Wallet is the one app that you should definitely remove from your iPhone's Control Center. Granted, your Touch ID, Face ID, or passcode is needed to access any credit cards you saved in your iPhone, but other types of cards such as some gift cards, travel passes, and various other loyalty cards do not. However, disabling Apple Wallet here doesn't make much sense if you still have the Home or Side button shortcut for it set.
23. Ask Websites Not to Track You in SafariWith the removal of the "Ask Websites Not to Track Me" setting in iOS 12.2, Apple has finally acknowledged the option's redundancy, as do not track requests made to sites and advertisers were often left unheard. If you're on a lower version of iOS due to a jailbreak or overall stability, you can still enable the option, but Apple noted that it's possible to be used as a means to fingerprint your device, so either on or off would work depending on your mood.Full Guide: Ask Sites & Advertisers Not to Track Your Browsing Activity Settings —> Safari —>
Ask Websites Not to Track Me (On)

24. Easily Spot Less Secure WebsitesTo bolster your privacy and security while browsing in Safari, Apple has embedded a "Not Secure" alert in Safari's address bar on iOS 12.2, and it shows up for websites that haven't implemented HTTPS yet. The application protocol, which is more secure than HTTP, encrypts data you send and receive from sites.Don't Miss: 20+ New iOS 12.2 Features for iPhone You Don't Want to Miss Image by Justin Meyers/Gadget Hacks This feature compliments the automatic warning alerts that Safari would send every time you're on a site with an illegitimate or expired certificate, in addition to notifications for a site's questionable status during a login or checkout process. Needless to say, we recommend staying on the lookout for these warning signs while surfing the web with Safari to keep your data safe from harm.
25. Disable Certain AutoFill Data in SafariApart from storing passwords, your iPhone can also save personal information for AutoFill to further streamline filling out forms in apps or online. This feature's benefits are obvious, as it makes entering pertinent data like your name, address, and credit card numbers all the more convenient. If a thief gets into your iPhone, however, access to this treasure trove of data can cause you a lot of grief. In the AutoFill settings, you can disable "Use Contact Info" or "Credit Cards" (or both).Full Guide: Disable AutoFill for Personal Info & Credit Cards in Safari Settings —> Safari —>
AutoFill —>
Use Contact Info (Off) /
Credits Cards (Off)
26. Block All Cookies (For Extreme Privacy)Cookies are vital to your web browsing experience and allow websites to store bits of your information for faster reloading on subsequent visits. This added convenience comes at the expense of your overall privacy, however, since website and advertisers could know your browsing habits. Apple built in a way to ban all cookies, which you can definitely do, just note that some websites may not work properly or at all without cookies enabled. In those cases, it's better to just block cross-site tracking instead (see next tip). Settings —> Safari —>
Block All Cookies (On)
27. Block Sites from Tracking You Across Other SitesThird-party cookies have always been blocked by Safari, so third parties have skirted around Apple's restrictions by taking advantage of first-party cookies associated with legitimate sites. Basically, this sketchy workaround is akin to advertisers piggy-backing off a website's own cookies which are necessary for faster browsing. By preventing cross-site tracking, you're maintaining some privacy without having to block all cookies which can cause issues on websites.Full Guide: How to Block Cross-Site Tracking on Your iPhone in Safari Settings —> Safari —>
Prevent Cross-Site Tracking (On)

28. Turn Off Microphone Access for AppsNumerous apps rely on having access to your iPhone's microphone to function as they should. Waze, for example, uses your iPhone's mic to listen for voice commands for hands-free navigation. Not all apps need this level of access to run as they should, however, so we recommend checking which apps have this permission granted if you hadn't done so already. Settings —> Privacy —>
Microphone Carefully look over the list of apps that can use your mic and disable access by tapping on the toggle next to any of the questionable ones.

29. Disable Camera Access for Certain AppsCamera access is essential for numerous photography and social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat to fully work, but just like microphone access, not all apps need this featured enabled. Settings —> Privacy —>
Camera We recommend making a habit out this, and frequently check for questionable apps that you might have granted camera access to and disabe them.
30. Turn Off Location Services for AppsIf you want a navigation app like Google Maps or Waze to get you from place to place, you'll need to grant it access to your iPhone's location services. Other examples include Snapchat, which can use your location to apply fun and unique filters that can only be had in specific location, and Camera, which can geotag your photos so you know where they were taken. But not every app needs location data access, and some that add convenience to your life may not be worth the added privacy invasion. For instance, while the Camera app (or any camera app) can include geolocation coordinates in the EXIF data of an photo you take, texting that image or sharing it on certain websites may give away your location to anyone who knows how to read EXIF data.Don't Miss: Stop Your iPhone Photos from Broadcasting Your Location Settings —> Privacy —>
Location Services Once inside "Location Services," comb over each app and set its permission to either "Always," "While Using," or "Never," depending on how much access to GPS data you think the app needs. If you want to totally disable the feature across the board, tap on the toggle next to "Location Services" to turn it off.

31. Disable App Access from the Lock ScreenYour iPhone's lock screen contains a ton of exposed personal data by default. There's recent notifications, your Wallet, the Today View widgets, Siri, and so on. Fortunately, many of these can be specifically disabled from the lock screen, just like we did for the Control Center, Today View, and Reply with Message in previous tips. Settings —> Face ID & Passcode —>
Allow Access When Locked

-OR-

Settings —> Touch ID & Passcode —>
Allow Access When Locked Once we haven't discussed yet include Notification Center, Siri, Home Control, and Return Missed Calls.
32. Empty Out Recently Deleted PhotosThe "Recently Deleted" folder within the Photos app can be a lifesaver, as it gives you the ability to retrieve accidentally deleted photos for 30 days before they're permanently erased. On the other hand, these deleted photos can also be easily viewed by anyone who gains entry to your iPhone — with or without your permission. Photos —> Albums —>
Recently Deleted —> Select —>
Delete All (or select pics and Delete) These are just a few of the settings in iOS 12 that you'll need to be aware of when it comes to privacy and security. Like mentioned before, there are a lot of things to be aware of in Safari alone that we didn't cover here, and a lot of other apps will be the same way. This article was produced during Gadget Hacks' special coverage on smartphone privacy and security. How To: Disable or Mute Annoying App Notifications on the Apple Watch

How To: Disable or Mute Annoying App Notifications on the Apple Watch
With audible alerts and subtle vibrations, the Apple Watch makes it difficult to miss incoming notifications. But soon enough you'll realize that not every notification is worth receiving on your Watch and can ultimately render the experience annoying under particular circumstances—like when your popular Instagram post floods in notification after notification.Fortunately, there are a couple ways to prevent a flood of notifications from dampening your Apple Watch-wearing experience. After all, clearing all notifications all of the time gets annoying really quick.

Disabling Notifications for Stock AppsThere's no need to completely disable notifications, unless you want to, because the companion Apple Watch app on your iPhone lets you disable notifications for individual apps.On your iPhone, launch the Apple Watch app and select Notifications. Then choose a stock application, tap Custom, and customize the way your alert comes in. You can disable sound, haptic feedback, or both, in addition to just alerts.

Disabling Notifications for Third-Party AppsFor third-party app notifications, enter Notifications again in the Apple Watch app and scroll all the way down under Mirror iPhone Alerts From. All you need to do here is toggle apps off and their notifications will cease to alert you.

Using Do Not Disturb & Muting SoundsJust like your iPhone, placing the watch in Do Not Disturb mode will disable all notifications until you say otherwise. Just make sure to disable the Mirror iPhone option in the Watch app on your iPhone under Do Not Disturb. This will ensure that you still receive alerts on your iPhone. Alternatively, you can simply mute Ringer and Alert Sounds and still receive haptic feedback. Both of these options are found in the Settings app on your Apple Watch's home screen.Along with alleviating annoyances, disabling notifications can also incrementally extend battery life on your Apple Watch, so I suggest doing so—at least for the app notifications you find annoying on your Watch. For apps that are just plain bothering you, notifications or not, you can easily delete them.Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook and Twitter, or Gadget Hacks over on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, for more Apple news, apps, and tips.

How To: See Every Single Bikini Pic from Your Facebook Friends on Your iPhone with Badabing

How To: See Every Single Bikini Pic from Your Facebook Friends on Your iPhone with Badabing
We all know the real reason why Facebook was created. No matter what Mark Zuckerberg says, or how many commercials about chairs the company makes, it all comes down to one thing—boobies.Okay, maybe not, but I guarantee that when most guys are browsing photos on Facebook, they're browsing for bazooms.
The FactsGirls and guys alike scour tons of Facebook pages daily, looking at pictures of their friends—or people they wish they were friends with. I mean, you don't reach 1 billion users without an occasional side boob shot. It's just not going to happen. Plus if you take into account the amount of time Americans spend on Facebook, we all know that most of that is spent looking rather than typing. So, for the Facebook users looking to save some time in their perverted picture search, there's an app for that, and it's aptly called Badabing.

Badabing!Badabing lets you search up to five of your friends at a time, and finds their bikini/swimsuit pictures from the day at the beach or visit to the pool. This apparently works for men as well, so ladies, you've got some bathing beauties to look at, too. The app will cost you $1.99, and if you take on the additional cost of feeling super creepy, you're looking at a net loss of at least 4 moral dollars. But if you like bikinis, and you like your friends in those bikinis, then this app is for you. Images via apple.com The app is only available in the iTunes App Store and is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and above and 3rd generation and above iPod touches. It should be noted that the app hasn't received glowing reviews, but the app is relatively new and those kept from seeing scantly clad women tend not to be very happy about it.

It's actually hard to imagine being able to use a computer without copy and paste. The iPhone (and iPad and iPod Touch) also has a copy and paste feature, but without an Edit menu at the top of every app like on macOS or Windows, it can be hard to find. This article shows you how to use copy and paste on the iPhone and other iOS devices.

How To: Remove Blinkfeed from Your HTC One for a Stock Feel Without Rooting

How To: Remove Blinkfeed from Your HTC One for a Stock Feel Without Rooting

For someone used to the old-style HTC Sense, upgrading to an HTC One with Sense 5 is a pretty intuitive experience, but there's one thing that some users find obtrusively different. Blinkfeed, an app which aggregates newsworthy articles from various sources and pins them in a scrolling feed on your home screen. If you don't like staying current on news, or don't like how much RAM it eats up, you probably want to get rid of it. There's been some questions about removing Blinkfeed in our forum, and we've previously shown how to make Blinkfeed less noticeable on the HTC One, but you can't actually get rid of it completely without installing a custom ROM.If that's too daunting of a task for you, fear not, there is another method you can try out, and it involves permanently hiding Blinkfeed so that you won't ever have to see it on any home screen. It doesn't delete it, but it's the next best thing. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Install a Third-Party LauncherTo permanently hide Blinkfeed, we'll be using a third party launcher. There are many launchers available, but I recommend using Apex Launcher by Android Does, which is what I will be using for this guide. Apex Launcher is a replacement launcher designed to give you complete customization of every possible parameter of your Android home screen. It follows the design of the Android 4.3 stock launcher, so the app drawer is a little different, but very little is not customizable. The app provides tons of options simply not available in the HTC Sense launcher, not to mention—it removes Blinkfeed!

Set Apex Launcher as Your Default LauncherNext, you'll have to set Apex as your new home screen launcher by doing these three steps.Press the Home button. You'll see the "Complete action using" screen. Tap Apex Launcher. Tap Always. Boom!

Blinkfeed Is Gone! It's really that simple. Again, like I had mentioned before, it's impossible to completely remove Blinkfeed from your HTC One without installing a custom ROM, but this serves as a nice alternative to having it always use up one of your home screens and eat up system memory.

What Else Can You Do with Apex Launcher?Getting rid of Blinkfeed isn't the only useful thing Apex can do. There's actually a free and paid version which offer different features. The free one gives you customizable homescreen quantities, multiple visual effects, infinite scrolling, desktop backup, and grid resizing. The pro version, which will run you $3.99, gives you even more effects, unread notification counts, and more gestures. For more information, check out the Apex Launcher website.

Notes 101: How to Lock Notes with Face ID or Touch ID (& Password Protection)

Notes 101: How to Lock Notes with Face ID or Touch ID (& Password Protection)
When you hand your unlocked iPhone to somebody so they can use the internet real quick, check out some cool photos, or do whatever, there's a possibility that they could snoop around where they don't belong. If you have some secret recipes, login credentials, intellectual property, or other sensitive information in your notes, you'll want to add some protection to them.Ever since iOS 9.3, Apple has included a way to protect individual scribblings in the Notes app. You can even enable Face ID or Touch ID to unlock notes without typing complicated passwords each time you need to access your password-protected docs.Don't Miss: How to Access the Notes App Directly from the Lock Screen

Step 1: Set a Password for NotesBefore you can start protecting specific notes, you'll need to create a password to use in the Notes app. To do that, open up the Settings app, then tap on "Notes." Next, tap on "Password" under the Viewing section. If you've never set a password before, the Set Password screen should pop up right away.Choose a strong password, verify it, add a hint (optional), and make sure "Use Face ID" or "Use Touch ID" is toggled on if you want fast access to locked notes later. We highly recommend adding a hint or saving it in a password manager because if you lose your password, you will only be able to access notes that are already protected using either Face ID or Touch ID. If you ever run into issues with those biometric methods, you'll have a problem. And if you want to access those notes on your Mac, well, you better have a newer one with Touch ID included.Don't Miss: The 4 Best Password Managers for iPhone & iPad If you can't access the "Password" menu above because of a popup alert saying that you need to "upgrade your notes to configure password protection," it's likely because you don't have Notes toggled on in your iCloud account preferences or you don't have an "On My iPhone" folder. To fix this problem, in Settings, tap on your name up top or "Accounts & Passwords" lower down the page, tap on "iCloud," then make sure "Notes" is toggled on. Or, if you'd rather not sync your notes with other devices, go into "Notes" in Settings, then toggle on "On My iPhone."

Step 2: Add Locks to All Your Sensitive NotesYou can't lock all of your notes at the same time, only individually. So open up your Notes app, then enter the folder where your sensitive notes are. It has to be a folder located in iCloud or On My iPhone because you can't lock anything in Gmail, Yahoo!, or any third-party email services. If you're running iOS 11 or higher, you can just swipe left on the note you want to lock, then tap the lock icon from the list that appears.Don't Miss: How to Pin Important Notes to the Top of Folders If you have Face ID enabled for Notes on your iPhone X, it will automatically scan your face to add a lock to the note. For other iPhone models, or when Face ID fails to register, you need to enter the password you created earlier. Currently, you can't use Touch ID to add a lock, only to unlock it later.

Alternative Method for Adding Locks to NotesIf you're currently running iOS 9.3 through iOS 10.3.3, you can't use the swipe method above. Instead, you'll need to use this method for adding locks to notes, which also works in iOS 11.This time, you need to actually open the note, then hit the share sheet icon. Once the share sheet opens, find the "Lock Note" button in the row of available activities. If you don't see it listed, you probably haven't done Step 1 above yet or you're not in an iCloud note.

Step 3: Actually Lock Your NotesIf you haven't noticed yet, just adding a lock to a note doesn't actually lock or hide it. It's still available to read or edit without any biometrics or passwords. To actually lock it, there are three things you can do.Tap the "Lock Now" icon at the bottom of a folder. Tap the unlocked lock icon in the top right of the note itself. Lock your iPhone by hitting the Side button (or letting it fall asleep). Doing either of these three things will lock all of your protected notes, not just one.

Step 4: Unlock Your Protected NotesNow, getting into your locked notes is simple. Just open up the note you need, then either tap on the lock icon or the "View Note" section. On the iPhone X, Face ID will scan your face automatically and you're in. If it runs into trouble, you can try again or hit "Enter Password" to do just that. For those of you with Touch ID, just rest your fingerprint on the Touch ID button to open the note or select "Enter Password."Two failed attempts at Face ID will force you to input your password. Three failed attempts at Touch ID will do the same. If you enter your password in wrong three times, your hint will show up.Now, just like locking one note will lock all of your protected notes, unlocking one note will unlock all of your protected notes as well. There is an exception to this, which we'll dive into in a little bit. For notes that are in the iCloud folder, they will also be protected on your other Apple devices, including Macs, and will need to be unlocked using Touch ID or your password whenever trying to access them from those devices.

Step 5: Change Your Notes Password (When Needed)If you're not digging your password for Notes, you can simply go back into the "Notes" section in Settings, tap on "Password" again, then select "Change Password." On the next screen, you'll need to enter your old password, then your new one twice, followed by the hint we recommend you add. Changing this password will affect all notes that you added locks to while the old password was in affect.

Step 6: Reset Your Password (If Necessary)If you ever forget your password and can't change it using the above step, you can totally reset it using your Apple ID password. However, there is one major downside to this — it will only affect new notes that you add locks to and all previously locked notes will remain inaccessible without Face ID or Touch ID.To reset, go back to "Notes" in Settings, tap on "Passwords" again, but this time hit "Reset Password" on the next page. A prompt will open asking for your Apple ID password, so enter that and select "OK." Afterward, a warning will pop up asking you if you're sure. Just hit "Reset Password" to finish.

Step 7: Use Advanced Password Protection (Optional)If you're only protecting a few of your notes and would rather have different passwords for each one, you can actually do so using the reset password process. Create a protected note using Steps 1 through 3 above, then for your next protected note, use Step 6 above to reset your Notes password to something else before adding a lock to your new note. You can do this every time you protect a new note if you want, just make sure you remember which password goes to what note (preferably in a password manager).More Info: The Trick to Protecting Each Note with Separate, Unique PasswordsOne downside to this, besides having to remember which password goes to which note, is that when you unlock or lock one note, it will no longer unlock or lock all of the other notes with the same password. Now, all protected notes need to be locked or unlocked individually.Another downside applies only to the iPhone X, where before you could use Face ID to add a new lock to a note but now you have to enter your password each time you want to add a lock, putting it on par with Touch ID-enabled iPhones. If you try to open a locked note that is not using your most recently created password for Notes, and you try to enter your new password instead of its original one, you'll automatically be prompted with your hint for your original password. Upon successful login with the original password, Notes will ask you if you want to update this "old" password to use your new one.

Step 8: Remove Locks or Delete (If Needed)Whenever you find yourself in a situation where a locked note no longer needs to be protected, you can easily remove the lock from it. Just tap on the note in question to access it, then unlock it as described in Step 4 above. Next, tap on the share sheet icon, and tap on "Remove Lock" from the activities row. That's it.Alternatively, you can use 3D Touch to peek at the note, then swipe up quickly while peeking to reveal some options. Tap on "Remove Lock" to do so. If you ever want to delete a protected note, all you have to do is swipe left on it from the folder list, then tap on the red trash can button, or 3D Touch to peek at the note, then swipe up and select "Delete." You will need to unlock the note first before it will work if it's not already unlocked. Alternatively, you can just open up the note, then tap the trash can icon in the options bar.Don't Miss: How to Password-Protect Photos & Videos Inside NotesFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

News: RCS Is Finally Here... If You Have the Right App, Phone & Carrier
The next generation in mobile communications has officially arrived. A new "Universal Profile" was just published to help carriers and OEMs enable Rich Communication Services (RCS) on any of their smartphones, and the standard hopes to replace SMS with a feature-rich, iMessage-like experience on all phones.RCS could offer a vast improvement for the texting experience on Android devices (and possibly even your PC), but even though the new standard now has a Universal Profile, it isn't being used universally—yet.Google and Sprint are fully on board with the new RCS Universal Profile, which means that software, services, and phones offered by the two companies will be fully compatible with the standard. But the problem is, we're still missing major players like AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and of course, Apple.Until all major carriers and OEMs get on board, RCS won't be of much practical use, unless you and everybody you know are using Android phones on Sprint. But that's what the newly-published Universal Profile is hoping to solve, by offering an industry standard to unify the platform.Whether or not the rest of the mobile industry will get on board remains to be seen, but the timer has officially started now that the Universal Profile is out. In an ideal scenario, all of the major players would adopt the standard, and we would finally have a rich texting experience on Android without having to install third-party apps like WhatsApp or Hangouts. If you'd like to learn more about RCS, the Universal Profile, and what it means for Android users, we explained the entire concept in a lot more detail at the following link.Don't Miss: RCS Advanced Messaging Is Finally Bringing Next-Gen iMessage-Style Texting to AndroidFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+
