How To: Goodbye, Bloatware! How to Remove All Preinstalled Crapware from Window 10
Slowly but surely, Microsoft seems to be steering Windows in the direction of Google's Android. First, they released Windows 10 as a free upgrade, mainly because they wanted to cash in on the revenue that they hoped would come when more users had access to the Windows Store. Then, they included tons of tracking "features" to help populate Bing with targeted ads, which has always been Google's primary method for monetizing Android.Don't Miss: How to Actually Turn Off OneDrive in Windows 10 But they took it a step further and even included bloatware apps with Windows 10 that are intended to suck users into additional Microsoft services, and thus, cannot be uninstalled. At least, that was the case until developer Lavish Thakkar came along with a utility that will finally allow us to remove any Windows 10 bloatware apps such as Skype, Xbox, and OneNoteâ€”and it can all be done in just a few simple clicks.

Step 1: Download 10AppsManagerFirst up, you'll need to grab a copy of Thakkar's bloatware removal tool, which is called 10AppsManager. Head to this link, then the file should automatically begin downloading within 5 seconds. Once it's finished, simply extract the contents of the ZIP, then launch the "10AppsManager.exe" file to get started.

Step 2: Uninstall Bloatware AppsBefore you begin removing Windows 10 bloatware apps, you should know that there is a slight risk involved here. Apps you uninstall with this tool cannot necessarily be reinstalled in all cases, so be careful not to remove anything that you may want to use again in the future. For instance, if you think you might want to record your screen later, you might not want to uninstall the Xbox app.To be on the safe side, I'd suggest creating a restore point or making a system image backup before you begin.That said, the rest of the process is incredibly easy. If you'd like to uninstall a bloatware app, simply click any app icon from 10AppsManager's main menu, then choose "Yes" when asked to confirm your choice. From here, just sit back and wait a few seconds while 10AppsManager works its magic. When the bloatware app has been successfully uninstalled, a small window will appear informing you that everything went off without a hitch. You can repeat this same process to uninstall as many bloatware apps as you'd likeâ€”but remember, there's a slight chance you may not be able to reinstall some of these apps, so it's probably best not to get to overzealous.

Step 3: Reinstall Apps (If Necessary)Should you decide that you'd like to reinstall any of the bloatware apps, know that there is no way to selectively restore any single app, so it's all or nothing. 10AppsManager provides detailed instructions on restoring these apps when you click the "Reinstall" button at the bottom of the main menu, but I'll show you the process here so you can have everything you need in once place.To begin, press the Windows button on your keyboard, then type "powershell" into the Start menu search bar. From here, right-click the "powershell" entry, then choose "Run as administrator." Next, copy and paste the following text into the PowerShell command prompt, then press enter:Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($__.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}When the script finishes running, any bloatware apps that could be restored will now be available to you again. When OS X Yosemite was first announced, there were a number of features that struck my attention, but one in particular that stood out above them all was the ability to make and receive texts and phone calls from your Mac, which Apple calls Continuity.I probably use iMessage more than any other app when I'm in my home office, mainly because it lessens the amount of times I get distracted by my phone when working on an important document. The question has always been: When am I going to be able to send SMS texts and make phone calls?Well, Apple has promised a lot with the new, and beautiful, OS X Yosemite update, but even with the preview, you are unable to use such features. Using the power of Google Voice, I managed to find a way to interconnect all my devices to one phone number, giving me access to all my texts, calls, and voicemails on my Mac without Yosemite. Your contact list will be the first thing you see when launching VoiceMac, which is generated from your Contacts app. You can then scroll through and select the contact you'd wish to speak with or type the phone number you'd like to text in the white box above "Ring". After selecting, press the SMS button to text the contact.If anyone is texting you, you will receive an automatic notification via email. You'll also receive a pop up on VoiceMac with the SMS conversation, and the ability to reply directly from within the app. Once a message is sent using VoiceMac, you'll see it instantly on your smartphone.
Making Phone Calls on Your Mac with Google HangoutsThere is one final thing that must be done to send and receive phone calls on your Mac and respond with your webcam or external microphone. It's still a Google platform, but it functions on its own.

Step 1: Download HangoutsHead on over to Google Hangout webpage and download the extension for your Mac. Once it's added, you will see a filled-in black chat bubble on your Mac's bar. From this point on, for our use, you can click on that bubble to open up a little side menu that allows you to make phone calls. All you gotta do is type in the number you wish to call and hit enter.

Step 2: Answering CallsNow, from this point on, when you receive a phone call, you will get notifications like this: If you answer, then Google Hangouts will open up and allow you to speak just as if you were on the phone.
It's All ConnectedNow, all of your devices are connected to one phone number. It keeps everything organized, easy, and connected while leaving you the flexibility to take care of your social life anywhere you are, at any time, with any device, and there is no need to wait for Apple's "Continuity".

Ever feel like you're receiving notifications way too late on your Android device? Many Android apps use Google's Cloud Messaging service to send and receive notifications, including Hangouts, Gmail, Pushbullet, Facebook, and even WhatsApp to an extent.To ensure that your phone is always connected to the Google Cloud Messaging service (or GCM Push, for short), a heartbeat exchange is used. Think of this like your phone occasionally asking GCM Push, "Hey, are you still there?," and in most circumstances, GCM Push responds, and the connection is maintained.But this heartbeat exchange only takes place every 15 minutes on Wi-Fi and 28 minutes on mobile data. That's fine for a lot of folks, but some carriers and internet providers will sever all idle connections after 5 to 10 minutes. If this happens, your phone is no longer connected to the GCM Push service, and the connection won't be re-established until the next heartbeat is scheduled to take place, which in extreme cases, can be up to 23 minutes.From an end-user standpoint, this means your notifications can be delayed for up to 23 minutes in some circumstances. So developer andQlimax created an app that will lower the GCM Push heartbeat interval, resulting in fewer disconnections, and ultimately, fixing many delayed notification issues. Step 1: Install Push Notifications FixerTo get this one going, your Android device will need to be rooted. For more information on that topic, please see our always-updated root guide.The app that will fix most notification delay issues is called Push Notifications Fixer, and it's available on the Google Play Store for free. Search the app by name to get it installed, or head directly to the install page at this link.

Step 2: Set the Heartbeat IntervalsWhen you first launch Push Notifications Fixer, the app will ask for Superuser access. Tap "Grant" on this popup, then you'll be taken to the app's main menu. From here, tap "Mobile heartbeat interval" to adjust the frequency at which GCM Push checks its connection while you're on mobile data. The default setting of 6 minutes should work for most folks, but you can go higher or lower if you'd like. Next, tap the "Wi-Fi heartbeat interval" option to adjust the GCM Push heartbeat frequency for the times you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. Again, you can go higher or lower if you want, but the default setting of 5 minutes should work for most people.

Step 3: Apply the Changes & RebootWith the heartbeat intervals set to your liking, tap the "Apply settings" entry in the main menu. Push Notifications Fixer will inform you that you'll have to either toggle your network radios off and on, or simply reboot your phone. To be on the safe side, I'd recommend that you reboot your phone at this point. When you get back up, no further interaction is required. GCM Push will use your new intervals to check its connection from now on, so most notification delay issues should now be a thing of the past.Has this app cured all of your notification delay woes on Android? Make Your Own Tunes with Music Maker JamMusic Maker Jam is a free app in the Google Play Store that lets you play around with different sounds to build your own beat. You can even add your own audio or pre-recorded choruses and one-liners. To start with, you get four free music styles: Hip Hop, Dance, Rock & Jazz. These include "over 1,000 instruments and sound loops" and serve as a starting point for making your songs.

Start a ProjectTo start your new music project, select the Projects tab in the overhead menu and hit New project. This will take you to a screen where you can begin to add your sounds, loops or styles. Tap on the plus icon and choose your music sample. You can add effects using the FX tab, edit the equalizer, record, and add more parts to your song from this screen.

Choosing a StyleIf you'd prefer not to start from scratch, you can use one of the pre-made styles available to you instead. After selecting a style, you will be taken back into the editor where you can begin to change and edit the current sounds to your preference. You can tap on the icon beneath each sound to turn it off (white) or on (orange). You can also change the sound type by selecting it from the casino-style scroll menu in the middle of the page. Simply flick up or down on the selected sound type to scroll through other options.
