Coming Soon: Share a Link to Your Instagram Story on Other Platforms

On Instagram, it's all about the sharing, but not all features are equally sharable. Take stories, for example. While an IG staple, stories can't be easily shared outside the Instagram bubble. However, that's about to change. We now know Instagram is hard at work on a feature that lets you share a convenient link to your Instagram story to any other platform รข€” text, email, social app, and so on.The upcoming link share feature is so simple, you'd think it was already available as a sharing option on your Instagram story. Yes, you can already share your story to Direct Messages with your friends or share it as a new post on your feed, but stories cannot be shared outside of the Instagram network. For now, anyway.Coming Soon: Chat Between Facebook, Instagram, & WhatsApp in Messenger We know this feature is on its way thanks to Jane Manchun Wong, an app researcher who breaks down new software features before they ever see the light of day. Instagram story links are one of those features. Wong discovered in May that Instagram is working on a share option that assigns a URL to your story. Share or copy that URL via the "More" menu, and it directs users to your story wherever you post it. Pretty novel. Wong also saw a similar feature back in November. Image by Jane Manchun Wong/Twitter Because Wong's tweet is older than 24 hours, the story that was linked in it has disappeared. We assume it works, however, because when the page loads, you see an error message that reads "story unavailable." And if you clean up the link, it takes you to her most recent story but with a blank screen. While there is no option yet available for everyone, you can share your most recent Instagram story via a link. However, in our tests, it only opens in a browser, for which you need to sign into Instagram, then the story won't actually play, so it's not working yet like this either. To try for yourself, use the link below, but swap out USERNAME with your Instagram username. https://www.instagram.com/stories/USERNAME/ Thanks SocialMediaToday, we can confirm this isn't the first sighting of a story-sharing feature in the works. Aside from Wong's tweets in November and May, the site reported in February that Lindsey Gamble discovered a "Share Link to Entire Story" option. Perhaps the latest option Wong found is the next evolution of that feature.Gamble's discovery would show the option presented when trying to share a story with multiple slides, but it doesn't appear that way from his screenshot. Wong's screenshots are of Android while Gamble's are using iOS, and the menus aren't always the same, so it could be two different versions of the same thing. Image by Lindsey Gamble/Twitter In either case, we'll need to sit tight on this feature, as there is no time frame for when Instagram will release it. Until then, you'll need to link to your Instagram profile itself if you want to let Instagram friends know via a different platform that you have an IG story to watch.Don't Miss: How to Share Your Friend's Instagram Stories in Your Own StoryFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard
